History of College Park

The first home built here was constructed around the turn of the 19th century in what was a large citrus grove. The 1920s College Park real estate boom started with platting four of the best-known neighborhoods, including Rosemere, Dubsdread, Edgewater Heights and Anderson Park. The City of Orlando’s expansion of its northern boundary during this boom included College Park. Ardsley Manor was built circa 1950 along Silver Lake’s shore. The main road in the neighborhood’s business district was transformed into a modern, pedestrian-friendly 3-lane byway in 2002. Edgewater Drive presents prime College Park real estate and modern structures in a vital business district close to Orlando Science Center.

Astronaut John Young and author John Kerouac called College Park home. Kerouac’s parents’ home is now an internationally recognized, non-profit haven for emerging writers.
